How to install FTP server (vsftpd) in REDHAT/CENTOS

Introduction :

Ftp is a service that allows you to remotely log in to the server. This service is often used in the Windows environment, as well as Linux. Ftp directory can be accessed via the graphical client, command line or a web browser.

Install vsftpd package by below command:

yum install vsftpd -y

chkconfig vsftpd on

Create one directory Eg: /ftp_data by below command, where ftp user will save it’s all files:

mkdir /ftp_data

Create one user Eg: ftp_user by below command: 

useradd -d /ftp_data -s /sbin/nologin ftp_user

passwd ftp_user

setfacl -m u:ftp_user:rwx /ftp_data

Now open vsftpd.conf: 

nano /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf

Make below changes in vsftpd.conf file:

anonymous_enable=no
local_enable=YES
write_enable=YES
local_umask=022
dirmessage_enable=YES
xferlog_enable=YES
connect_from_port_20=YES
xferlog_std_format=YES
chroot_local_user=YES
listen=YES
pam_service_name=vsftpd
userlist_enable=YES
tcp_wrappers=YES

Restart service of FTP by below command:


/etc/init.d/vsftpd restart

Now you can login in to ftp by created username and password, use any ftp client like Filezilla (https://filezilla-project.org/or through command-line by ftp server_ip command.
